E.- Last weekend I watched three films, one for each evening, and let me tell you.. it felt great. Films can be such a great escape from the 'real life', but can also enrich your mind and make you reflect about real issues. The one I bring you today will accomplish both.
Argo is based on the true story of the rescue of American citizens being held hostage during a diplomatic crisis between Iran and the US. Even though it's not your usual action film and revolves a lot around politics, it made me bite my nails throughout - save your manicure ritual for after. Being the winner of three Oscars last year, including Best Picture, it's an absolute must see.
P.- No último fim de semana vi três filmes, um para cada noite e deixem-me que vos diga... adorei. O cinema é uma óptima forma de combinar arte e entretenimento nos tempos livres, podendo ser usado para escapar à vida real ou para aprender ou reflectir sobre coisas mais sérias. O filme que vos trago hoje faz as duas coisas.
Argo é baseado em eventos reais e conta a história de como reféns americanos foram salvos durante uma crise diplomática entre o Irão e os Estados Unidos. Apesar de não ser um filme de acção comum, com tiros e etc, admito que roí as unhas durante o filme inteiro (recomendo que deixem a manicure para depois). Sendo o vencedor de três Óscares no ano passado, incluindo Melhor Filme, este filme é de visualização obrigatória para os amantes da sétima arte.

E.- It's Friday, the weekend is coming, time to relax, blablabla - you know the drill. Today I recommend the film Liberal Arts, featuring none other than our beloved Ted Mosby (oh is that not is name? My bad. Josh Radnor).
E.- It's Friday again - why do I have the impression that January is flying by? Don't get me wrong, I'm as excited as the next person about the weekend, but time just seems to rush by these days, it's scary. Ramblings aside, Friday night is the first of three evenings in which you can kick back at home and enjoy a nice film - and I'm here with a suggestion in case your ideas didn't come home with you for the weekend.
As you may know, I lost my dog a week ago. In all honesty, I never thought it would hurt this much - I guess sometimes you only understand how connected you are with your pets when you lose them.
So for this week's Film Friday, I bring back 'Marley and Me', the film inspired by the eponymous novel. It's a great film that shows you how a dog can give you just as much, or more, than you give him.

Como devem saber se têm acompanhado o blog, perdi o meu cão há uma semana. Nunca pensei sentir tanto a sua perda - às vezes só percebemos o quanto esta ligação é especial quando a perdemos.

Much like 'Love Actually' and 'Valentine's Day', this film strings together several stories and characters, allowing you to see huge names like Sarah Jessica Parker, Robert De Niro, Halle Berry, Ashton Kutcher, Jon Bon Jovi, and many more in just one film - how cool is that?
It's a nice romantic comedy that will certainly put you in the mood for the big night - only two sleeps aways!

Hoje trago-vos um filme que é perfeito para o último fim-de-semana do ano (sou a única chocada com isto?!). Parecido com 'O Amor Acontece' e 'Dia dos Namorados', este filme junta muitas histórias e personagens, o que nos permite ver grandes nomes como Sarah Jessica Parker, Robert De Niro, Halle Berry, Ashton Kutcher, Jon Bon Jovi e muitos mais num só filme!

A cute animation film, perfect to watch with family, friends and hot chocolate - especially if you have children in the family!
Love Actually
For me, this is the King of Christmas films. I'm not sure if we may call it a classic (yet!), but it's just a great modern take on Christmas that gets me festive every time I watch it.

Na minha opinião, este é o rei dos filmes de Natal. Não sei se merecerá o título de clássico (para já!), mas é uma adaptação natalícia moderna que vale muito a pena ver, e que me põe no espírito sempre que o vejo.
I know November has just gone, but this film popped in a conversation I had with friends this week and I just had to tell you (or remind you) about it. It's so so beautiful and, much like last week's film, can teach us a lot about life and how to face it.

Doce Novembro
Por acaso o mês de Novembro acabou de acabar (haha!) mas este filme apareceu numa conversa que eu tive esta semana e tinha mesmo que vos falar dele (ou relembrá-lo). É tão mas tão bonito e, tal como o filme da semana passada, pode nos ensinar muito sobre a vida e como encará-la nos momentos mais difíceis.
Aviso: Por favor não vejam se estiverem tristes, nem que seja só um bocadinho! Depois não digam que não vos avisei :)
We lead such rushed lives nowadays, that most of us don't stop to think how lucky we are. I've been feeling down because of a few setbacks lately, and difficulties like these can suck away the happiness out of you. But they shouldn't - life is about setbacks and overcoming them, and we just need to find the strength we have within and fight for we want, for what we believe, for what is best for us and for the ones we love. It can also be hard to gain some perspective when setbacks happen, and forget about the bigger picture. This film will put you in your place and remind you of what is important and how strong we can be when there is no other option.
The Pursuit of Happyness is based on a true story, which makes the film even more inspiring. It's about a man who ends up homeless with his son in San Francisco, after life throws him a few setbacks, and how he overcame that with his perseverance.
Hope you like it and get inspired to do great things!
p.s.- The little boy is Will Smith's actual son! How cute is that?

Hoje em dia andamos sempre a correr e não paramos para pensar na nossa sorte. Tenho andado um pouco em baixo ultimamente por causa de certas dificuldades, e são essas pequenas preocupações que por vezes nos roubam a felicidade. Mas não deviam - todos enfrentamos algum tipo de dificuldade na vida e a única coisa a fazer é encontrar a nossa força interior e lutar pelo que queremos, pelo que acreditamos e pelo que é melhor para nós e para os nossos. Também é difícil ter perspectiva nestas alturas, e essas tais dificuldades podem parecer gigantes quando na verdade são pequeninas tendo em conta o panorama maior que é a vida. Este filme ensina-nos isso mesmo - a dar valor ao que temos, a ter força para lutar pelo que queremos, e a pôr as coisas em perspectiva.
Em busca da felicidade é baseado numa história verídica, o que o torna ainda mais inspirador. É sobre o um homem que, devido às tais dificuldades que a vida às vezes nos apresenta, ficou sem-abrigo com o seu filho nas ruas de San Francisco, e como ultrapassou essa situação com perseverança.
Espero que gostem e que fiquem tão inspirados como eu fiquei!
p.s.- O menino que faz de filho é mesmo filho do Will Smith! Não é fofo?
Who doesn't love a bit of Johnny Depp in their lives? In Public Enemies, he plays the famous bank robber John Dillinger who gets hunted down by the FBI.
I'm not usually one for Crime and Drama films, and I confess it was Johnny who motivated me to watch this in the cinema. He is brilliant in it, as always, but the film is captivating in itself and tells a true (and exciting) story, which is always a plus for me.
This will definitely add a touch of excitement to your weekend, in case you need it!

Quem é que não gosta do Johnny Depp? Confessem-se, vá lá. Neste filme, Inimigos Públicos, Depp faz o papel de um famoso ladrão de bancos dos anos 30, John Dillinger que, (in)felizmente, é apanhado pelo FBI.
Normalmente não vejo muitos filmes deste género - sou fiel às comédias - e confesso que fui ver este filme ao cinema por causa do Johnny. Ele está brilhante, como sempre, mas fiquei positivamente surpreendida com o filme. O facto de contar uma história verídica torna-o mais interessante e real, e pode passar por uma lição de história! :)
Black Cat, White Cat - definitely not your usual comedy, this was probably the first foreign film I ever saw (not counting English speaking films!). It may be a bit odd at times but trust me, it's hilarious!
The plot revolves around an arranged marriage that goes terribly wrong, with mafia, death and resurrection in the mixture. What's not to love?

Hoje trago-vos um filme um pouco diferente do que o costume - Gato Preto, Gato Branco. Vi-o no oitavo ano porque na altura tínhamos uns estagiários muito à frente que nos traziam coisas destas, e adorei. Não pensei que ia gostar por ser muito diferente do que o que estava habituada, mas o filme é tão engraçado e fora do normal que ultrapassou as minhas expectativas.
A história é sobre um casamento arranjado por interesse que corre mal, e mete máfia, morte e ressurreição à mistura! Parece-vos bem?
I'm usually bored by animation films nowadays, mostly because of the singing. Not my childhood classics like 'The Little Mermaid' or 'Beauty and the Beast' - I could watch them non-stop - but the new ones like 'Tangled', which I liked but would happily fast forward through some clips if I hadn't seen it at the cinema! That being said, 'The Croods' is the perfect example of an animation film that did not bored me at all.
This film could easily be a normal one featuring real people because the plot is so believable - and funny! I genuinely laughed out loud, and that is why I urge everyone to see this film ASAP.

A maioria dos filmes de animação de hoje em dia aborrece-me por causa da cantoria. Não me faz impressão nos clássicos da minha infância como 'A Pequena Sereia' ou 'A Bela e o Monstro', mas não me importava nada de passar essas partes às frente nos mais recentes. No entanto, 'Os Croods' vieram-me trazer de volta a alegria de ver um filme de animação e é por isso que recomendo um serão com esta família peculiar!
O filme podia ter sido feito com pessoas reais, já que o guião é bastante credível. Eu ri-me, e muito, e por isso é que vos peço que vejam este filme o mais rápido possível para curarem o trauma pós semana! :P

With this being the Halloween weekend, it's only appropriate that my film suggestion takes that in to consideration. And because I am incapable of watching a horror film, here goes a child version of a Halloween evening!
I watched this film in my English class during middle school, and I remember not understanding it very well. I'll be re-watching it this weekend, so I can't really tell you much about it. An IMDB classification of 8 out 10 should be a good clue on how good this film is though.

Já que o próximo fim-de-semana ainda tem cheiro a Halloween, é bastante apropriado que a minha sugestão se enquadre nesta festividade. E como sou incapaz de ver filmes de terror, aqui vai uma versão infantil de um filme de Halloween!
Eu vi este filme numa aula de Inglês no ciclo, e lembro-me de não o perceber muito bem. Vou revê-lo este fim-de-semana, por isso não vos posso falar muito sobre ele. Tem uma classificação de 8 em 10 no IMDB, o que é uma boa pista sobre a sua qualidade!

Little Miss Sunshine is about a little girl who has goals and works hard to achieve them, but who lives in a family where everybody is bit on edge. When she gets nominated to go to a competition and they decide to all go, it's a recipe for disaster.
It might seem like one of those brainless comedies but there is a lot to it, trust me. Hope you like it!

Apesar dos meus olhos estarem quase a explodir - e eu sem saber porquê - a Film Friday não poderia faltar! Hoje trago-vos um filme muito inspiracional que vos vai fazer querer lutar por aquilo que querem!
Uma Família à Beira de Um Ataque de Nervos é sobre uma menina que se esforça muito para atingir os seus objectivos mas que vive numa família onde toda a gente está um bocado stressada. Quando ela é nomeada para uma competição e a família decide ir toda junta, é mesmo uma receita para o desastre.
Pode parecer uma daquelas comédiazinhas mas é um filme fantástico, acreditem! Espero que gostem!

A guy and girl who hate each other trying to raise a baby together - who is freaking adorable by the way - what's not to like? I'm not usually one to like Katherine Heigl's flicks, but this one is actually ok.
I watched it with my mum when she was visiting, and I actually spend my 21st first minutes watching it (wow, didn't think of that until now, maybe I should've picked better? haha). It's a very funny and entertaining film, perfect for when you just want to kick back, turn your brain off and enjoy a good laugh!

Um homem e uma mulher que se destestam a educarem uma criança juntos - que é super fofa já agora - o que há para não gostar? Normalmente não costumo ser fã dos filmes da Katherine Heigl, mas este até não é mau.
Vi-o com a minha mãe enquanto ela me esteve a visitar esta semana, e passei a meia-noite do meu aniversário a vê-lo (só pensei nisto agora, é um bocado deprimente, haha!). Super engraçado, é a escolha perfeita para quando só vos apetece desligar de tudo, relaxar e dar umas boas gargalhadas!
Happy Friday! Although it's already almost Saturday, I still bring you Film Friday. Tonight I suggest 'Juno', a film from 2007.
'Juno' is a film about a high school girl who gets pregnant by accident, and how she deals with her pregnancy. The reason this film is so special is because Juno, the main character, is a strong, independent female and the way the issues of teenage pregnancy and abortion are treated is remarkable. It's also very funny!
The writer of the film, Diablo Cody, stated that Women are clever, women are funny, women are sharp, and I wanted to show
that these girls were human and not the stereotypical teenage girls
that we often see in the media. Sounds like a good reason to watch it, doesn't it?

Boa Sexta-feira! Apesar de ser quase Sábado, ainda vos trago a Film Friday. Hoje sugiro-vos 'Juno', um filme de 2007.
'Juno' é um filme sobre uma rapariga que engravida acidentalmente no liceu, e foca-se em como ela lidou com a situação. A razão pela qual este filme é tão especial é porque a Juno, a personagem principal, é uma menina (mulher) independente e forte, e os assuntos de aborto e gravidez na adolescência são tratados de uma forma exemplar. Além do mais, tem um humor engraçado!
A escritora do filme, Diablo Cody, disse que 'As Mulheres são espertas, engraçadas e perspicazes e eu queria mostrar que estas raparigas eram humanas e não os estereótipos que normalmente vemos nos media'. Uma boa razão para ver o filme, não?

Film Friday is back after my hectic summer (pictures next week *fingers crossed*). This week I suggest you The Perks of Being a Wallflower, featuring the smart and beautiful Miss Watson.
I read the book before watching the film, and since I absolutely loved it, the expectations for the film were over the roof. It didn't disappoint and that is why I'm reccommending it!
This film is incredibily inspirational, urging you to live in the now without all the #yolo crap. It's the story about a special boy, who starts making friends and discovering more about himself - you need to watch to see where this leads him.

Depois de um Verão muito ocupado, e de estar enganada em relação ao tempo que teria disponível para o blog, a Film Friday está de volta. Esta semana recomendo 'As Vantagens de Ser Invisível', com a sensacional Miss Watson.
Li o livro antes de ver o filme e, como o adorei, as expectativas estavam mais que altas. O filme não desapontou, e é por isso que o sugiro hoje!
O filme é extremamente inspiracional, transmitindo a mensagem de viverem no presente, sem a irritante filosofia #yolo. Charlie, um rapaz muito especial, começa a fazer amigos e isso leva-o a descobrir mais sobre si mesmo. Para descobrir onde isso o leva, vais ter que ver o filme! :)
As I told you in this post, I spent the last week and a half visiting Paris. I arrived early this morning, and as much as I enjoyed Paris and its shy sun, I'm more than happy to be in the Portuguese scorching heat again!
Whilst in France, I had the chance to visit the magnificent Chateau de Versailles. It's absolutely amazing but more on that later - today it's about film. Dazzled by the glamour of the royal residence, my cousins and I appropriately decided to re-watch the film I bring you today.
Marie Antoinette
This film by Sofia Copolla, who's behind The Bling Ring, is definitely a gentle interpretation of Marie Antoinette's life. Nicknamed the 'Queen of Debt', she was beheaded after the revolution as well as her husband, King Louis XVI. The enormous amounts of money she spent on eccentricities led to her sad end, but this film will make you see the other side of it - a young girl forced to leave her home at the age of fourteen to marry a complete stranger and adapt to a whole different country and 'family', with a lot of other pressures in the mix.
The scenarios are amazing, as you can see a great deal of the palace and the gardens, not to mention the food, clothes and the shoes - designed by the great Manolo Blahnik!!

Como vos disse neste post, passei a semana passada a visitar Paris. Cheguei hoje de manhãzinha, e por muito que tenha adorado Paris e o seu sol tímido, estou feliz por voltar a este solinho quentinho de Portugal!
Em França tive a oportunidade de visitar o magnífico Chateau de Versailles. É lindíssimo, mas mais sobre isso depois - primeiro o filme. Como estávamos completamente maravilhadas, eu e as minhas primas decidimos rever o filme - bastante apropriado - que vos trago hoje - Marie Antoinette.
Este filme de Sophia Copolla, a mesma por detrás do The Bling Ring, é definitivamente um retrato gentil da vida de Maria Antonieta, a esposa do Rei Luís XVI. Apelidada de 'A Rainha da Dívida' devido às altas quantias de dinheiro que gastava nas suas excentricidades, acabou decapitada depois da revolução, assim como o seu marido. No entanto, este filme leva-nos a ver o outro lado da história, o da menina que foi forçada a deixar a sua casa e tudo o que conhecia para trás aos catorze anos, e adaptar-se a uma nova 'casa', com outras pressões à mistura.
Os cenários são fantásticos, e dá para ver grande parte do Castelo e dos jardins, já para não falar da comida, da roupa e dos sapatos, que foram desenhados pelo grande Manolo Blahnik!!
Even though I'm roaming around the streets of Paris, I didn't forget Film Friday. This week I bring you the film made after the book that blew me away.
The Hunger Games
I love this series because of its underlying message and its strong female character. The book is much better than the film, but the film is very good nonetheless. It's about a future where this greedy capitol controls 12 districts and, in order to remind them of who's in charge, organises The Hunger Games every year. A couple of children from every district must go, and out out the 24 participants, only one comes out alive. It sounds awful, and even I was decisively against the idea of the film the first time someone told me about it, but I assure you it's worth a watch. I mean, if you think about it, the world we live in nowadays isn't much different... This film made me fall in love with Jennifer Lawrence, and I've been folowing her career ever since. Plus, let's just say she isn't in a hot guy shortage!

Apesar de estar a palmilhar as ruas de Paris, não me esqueci da minha recomendação semanal. Esta semana trago-vos o filme inspirado pelo livro que me surpreendeu muito pela positiva.
Os Jogos da Fome
Eu adoro esta trilogia por causa da sua mensagem e do facto de ser uma personagem feminina a protagonizá-lo. É sobre um futuro em que a Capital controla doze distritos e usa os Jogos da Fome todos os anos para relembrar a população de quem é que manda. Um casal é enviado de cada districto e, dos 24 participantes, só um é que sobrevive. Soa horrível, e até eu detestei a ideia quando me contaram pela primeira vez, mas é na realidade uma história incrível. Se pensarmos bem, o nosso mundo não funciona de uma maneira assim tão diferente...
Este foi o filme que me fez apaixonar pela Jennifer Lawrence e tenho seguido a sua carreira desde aí. Ainda por cima ela tem dois jeitosos à escolha neste filme!
